Warm, fertile waters, well equipped fishing
boat and scenic views provide a quality fishing experience in
Cancun and Riviera Maya. The coastline was originally settled by
fishermen who lived in tiny villages clustered along the
beach.
Long before the was discovered by divers and sunbathers, the first
tourist to appreciate the area were sport fishermen especially
those who embrace world class game fishing.
While the Yucatan Peninsula is best know for its beaches and archaeology,
sport fishing is the focus for many visitors especially between
the months of February and July. During that time it's often
not-stop action. The active charter boats will raise hundreds of
sailfish during that time of the year. IN April to May, fishing
devotees descent on Puerto Avenutras from the Untied States or
annual tournaments along the off shore corridor. Chances of
catching a sailfish are
probably better here than anywhere in the
world.
There two type of fishing; Deep sea (blue water) fishing and
inshore (or shallow water) fishing; both are excellent in Cancun
as well as the Maya Riviera. Deep water or blue water fishing and
inshore or shallow water fishing; both are excellent. Deep waters
offshore shelter snapper, amberjack, bonito, Wahoo, kingfish,,
mackerel, shark and barracuda year round, and sailfish, marlin,
tuna and dorodo or dolphin-fish are best from May to June. This is
the most important category for both the general public as well as
the saltwater aficionados sing either spin fishing or big-game
tackle. Inshore waters, especially at the the southern end of
the Riviera May, abound with pompano, permit, snook and
bonefish. The coast attracts modern anglers spin fishing and especially
those who embrace fly-fishing. Enthusiasts come here with great
anticipation of fishing both the flats and the lagoons to achieve
the grand slam of sport fishing hooking wily bonefish, permit and
tarpon all in one day.
